When Michael McCaul (R-Texas 10th District) replaced Lloyd Doggett as my representative in Congress, I signed up for his e-mail newsletter. I like to know what the people who represent me in government are doing.
During this shutdown, it seems that he can still send e-mails out, but the service for sending e-mails to him is not functioning. So I've pasted my latest message below.
Dear Mr. McCaul,
As a voter in the Texas 10th district, I am just writing to say that I applaud you for donating your salary to the March of Dimes during the government shutdown, although I understand that your Congressional salary is not your main income. Could you afford to donate your total income for this period? That would put you in the same place as most Federal workers right now. Remember that you are a Federal worker, too.
I am also very happy that ACA/Obamacare is moving forward, as I have a hardworking brother who has not been able to get health insurance due to a difficult health condition. And I believe that the best way to get people off "entitlements" is to raise the minimum wage to a liveable wage--a wage that would pay more than "entitlements" and would make them less attractive.
