Nathan Schlicher, center.
Democrats are supposed to have control of the Washington state Senate. However, two Lieberdems split off and sided with the Republican minority to hand the chamber to the GOP.
This November, there is a key special election for an open Democratic seat in SD-26. If Dems hold it, they need just one pickup next November to retake the chamber. If they don't, it makes next November's task much harder.
The race is a true toss-up in a district that President Barack Obama carried by a tiny 49-48 margin. And of course, we know what happens to Democratic performance in non-presidential years. Republicans have fielded state Rep. Jan Angel, who the Seattle Times called "seeming confus[ed]" with "gaps in her knowledge". Democrats have Nathan Schlicher who has gotten rave reviews from political observers for his work ethic.
The enviros should be particularly excited about this race:
Schlicher said there is a “clear environmental difference” between his voting record and Angel’s record. He pointed to his 100 percent voting score by the Washington Conservation Voters, compared to 11 percent for Angel.
You want a
kicker?
Some out-of-state companies with ties to ALEC have helped the effort to elect Angel, who is ALEC’s co-chairwoman for Washington.
We began taking a look at this race after Kitsap River gave us the
heads-up. This endorsement is truly grassroots, coming from you guys. Now it's up to this same grassroots community to take the next step,
helping our friends in Washington recapture the state Senate from those asshole Lieberdems—and ALEC's chosen one.
