Apparently, Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen is now the latest victim of the Dread Pirate Robert's Race Card. Yes, poor Dick feels is just all so unfair that because he wrote a little column that could very easily be confused with and potentially fit the profile of something "racist" . Well, clearly that's just a big bowl of Tossed-Wrong Salad, isn't it folks? Obviously Dick is "Innocent" until proven a Full-on Shiesskoff, right?

"I didn't write one line, I wrote a column," he told the Huffington Post in an interview. "The column is about Tea Party extremism and I was not expressing my views, I was expressing the views of what I think some people in the Tea Party held."
You see, there. Doesn't that clear things up? He wasn't expressing his own personal views, he was expressing what
he thinks that
Tea Partiers think when they see a picture of New York Mayor-Elect Bill De Blasia and his inter-racial family.
"The word racist is truly hurtful," he added. "It's not who I am. It's not who I ever was. It's just not fair. It's just not right."
It's not "right"? Y'know what's not right? Getting Shot and Killed when going to 7-11 to get some snacks because someone is just
convinced that you are a completely different person than who you actual are. Or perhaps getting shot ten times in the chest by a COP after a traffic accident
when you knock on someone's door for help, or perhaps getting "accidently"
BLASTED IN THE FACE with a Shotgun by the home owner instead when trying to ask to use the phone.
Because, y'know, Opps and besides Black people are S.C.A.R.Y. at night.
And since it's their own fault for being so scary, people jump to the wrong conclusion, and then Bang. (Or in some cases Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, bang bang, Bang, Bang, bang, Bang - Bang!) It's all so "Unfair".
Cohen explained that he didn't think the entire Tea Party held such views.
"I don't think everybody in the Tea Party is like that, because I know there are blacks in the Tea Party," he said. "So they're not all racist, unless I'm going to start doing mind reading about why those black people are there."
So let me get this, you saying you're shouldn't be blamed for your words because you were just writing
what you think White Tea Partiers Think, but you're not going to "Mind Read" the Black ones?
Yeah, Riiiiight. I really wouldn't want to try and read the mind of someone like Allen West either, but if you're argument is he can't be a Racist - simply because he's Black - I'm not with that, and neither is the Congressional Black Caucus after he served them Chik-Fil-A Biscuits for Lunch. I guess Char-Broiled Klan-Burgers were out of season, oh and Self-Loathing Much?
What he wrote was this....
Today’s GOP is not racist, as Harry Belafonte alleged about the tea party, but it is deeply troubled — about the expansion of government, about immigration, about secularism, about the mainstreaming of what used to be the avant-garde. People with conventional views must repress a gag reflex when considering the mayor-elect of New York — a white man married to a black woman and with two biracial children. (Should I mention that Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, used to be a lesbian?) This family represents the cultural changes that have enveloped parts — but not all — of America. To cultural conservatives, this doesn’t look like their country at all.
So we are to take from his recent comments that
what he meant to say was...
People with [conservative/traditional/christian/intolerant/backward/bigoted/assholish] views must repress a gag reflex when considering the mayor-elect of New York — a white man married to a black woman and with two biracial children.
Should I mention that Bill de Blasio was elected in a Landslide that swept
every Demographic, even the Troglodyte Caucus?
Bill de Blasio captured virtually every tile in the city’s vast mosaic in his landslide victory over Republican Joe Lhota in the race for mayor.
The Democrat won 95% of the black vote, more than 8 of 10 Hispanic votes, and more than half — 52% — of the white vote, the exit poll showed.
He also won big in every age, religious and income group, even collecting 62% of the vote among those making at least $100,000 a year, despite his vow to raise taxes on the rich.
Read quite simply Cohen was attempting to say that when dealing with
those people the moderate seeming Chris Christie, being far from a fire-breathing tea partier, is looking at some difficult ground to cross in Iowa. Is saying simply
that really so difficult? The answer for Christie is simple, all he has to do is divide to nutbag chorus down the middle with dozens of onstage crazies during the primaries and the nomination is his, just like it was for Romney who was never all that Tea-Bag Friendly.
But let's go back to the whole "Today's GOP is not Racist" bit for a second.
Oh really?
When it comes to implementing unnecessary "Voter Integrity" measures that have disenfranchised tens of thousands of minority voters to "solve" single-digit cases of fraud - Where is the GOP?
What was the entire "Let's Defund A.C.O.R.N." thing about? Wasn't it Fox GOP News who showed us weeks of James O'Keefe pretending to be a child sex-trafficker dressed up like Demented and Tasteless version of Huggy Bear from Starsky and Hutch? What was ACORNS big offense waiting until he and his fake hooker walked out of the building before Calling the Cops instead of conducting a Citizens Arrest on the Spot?
Why is it that when Dr Laura decided to say the N-Word a dozen times on the air, the person to come flying to her rescue in defense was Sarah Palin (with Don't retreat - Reload! Yet!)? What was she supposed to be reloading with - more N-Words to Fire at more Black Women on the Phone?
Where was this "Not Racist" GOP when Andrew Breitbart publicly smeared Shirley Sherrod with a deceptively edited video?
Where were they when the former Tea Party Express Leader Mark Williams called Obama an "Indonesian Muslim Welfare-Thug in Chief" and then later when he wrote an extremely not-clever mock letter supposedly from the NAACP begging Lincoln not to emancipate them so they can remain in the warm coddling undemanding arms of modern day "Slavery" (Aka "Welfare", cuz clearly Black People just love to be On the County - Yo!).
Wither art thou Non-Racist GOP? When or where have you gone? Where are the honest, brave GOPers who are willing to loudly and forcefully proclaim that Kenyan Birther Jokes and False Muslim Accusations against the twice duly elected President are NOT what the Party Stands For? Who will say "This Blatant Bigotry and Bias Will Not Be Tolerated"?
Anyone? Anyone!?
Bueller?
It may not be "Fair" to say everyone in the GOP or Tea Party is "Racist", but clearly we've yet to see or hear anyone from that side of the ideological aisle raise a finger, or a meager yelp, in opposition to any of the above have we? "All Racist" no, probably not, but it might be more than reasonable to say they are highly "Racism Tolerant".
I mean, seriously the likelihood of everyone in the GOP being Racist is about as likely as every black person being a criminal, and clearly we shouldn't simply treat every GOPer as if they were a Racist, just in case, any more than we should treat every Black person as if they were a potential violent criminal - Just In Case.
Right?
Nobody would endorse an unfair unconstitutional blanket pre-judgement like that. And then you run into columns by people like the unrepentant asshat who wrote this.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/...
I don’t like what George Zimmerman did, and I hate that Trayvon Martin is dead. But I also can understand why Zimmerman was suspicious and why he thought Martin was wearing a uniform we all recognize. I don’t know whether Zimmerman is a racist. But I’m tired of politicians and others who have donned hoodies in solidarity with Martin and who essentially suggest that, for recognizing the reality of urban crime in the United States, I am a racist. The hoodie blinds them as much as it did Zimmerman.
In New York City, blacks make up a quarter of the population, yet they represent 78 percent of all shooting suspects — almost all of them young men. We know them from the nightly news.
Those statistics represent the justification for New York City’s controversial stop-and-frisk program, which amounts to racial profiling writ large. After all, if young black males are your shooters, then it ought to be young black males whom the police stop and frisk. Still, common sense and common decency, not to mention the law, insist on other variables such as suspicious behavior. Even still, race is a factor, without a doubt. It would be senseless for the police to be stopping Danish tourists in Times Square just to make the statistics look good.
Coincidentally that particular asshat happens to be... Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen.
And under Cohen-Logic since 78% of the suspects are young black men that Justifies stopping 104% of the black men in the city and finding - usually - that 99% Don't have any weapons on Them.
During the past two years alone, the number of firearms seized by police has fallen 13.5 percent from 3,908 in 2009 with 510,742 frisks, to 3,443 last year, when the NYPD stopped and frisked a record-busting 685,724 New Yorkers. And last week the NYPD reported that during the first half of this year, firearm seizures continues to fall to 1,613, compared to 1,705 during the first six months of last year. The downturn came as the NYPD conducted 337,434 stops-and-frisks — a figure that keeps the NYPD on pace to match last year’s record-busting total.
By comparison, during Bloomberg’s first year in office in 2002, the NYPD recovered 4,069 guns — but the police stop-and-frisked only 96,000 people that year, according to NYPD data.
As a matter of fact, if the Police were to Stop More Danish Tourists in Time Square, they'd probably
find more guns and drugs than they currently are.
Specifically, the New York Police Department uncovered a weapon in one out of every 49 stops of white New Yorkers, while for Latinos a weapon was found for every 71 stops, and for African Americans that number was 93 stops.
Meanwhile, the likelihood that a stop of an African American New Yorker would yield contraband was one-third less than that of white New Yorkers stopped.
So of course, let's stop more and more Black people. When in doubt, go to where
the guns aren't.
We're talking about over Half-A-Million Illegal Seizures and Searches to get less than 4,000 weapons. Every Year! The NYPD claims that these numbers are Proof the Program Works because such aggressive tactics are making people Too Afraid to Risk Having a Gun on Them.
And we all know how much the GOP really, really, really HATES the idea of someones 2nd Amendment Right to Open Carry being infringed into a fine dust-like mist by a Jack-Booted Pack of Government Thugs. [Unless of course the people with those guns just might be Black, in which case who the FUCK cares about the 2nd Amendment or the 4th Amendment or like, facts and shit?].
Y'know, I think that same logic should apply to 99% of the columnists who write ridiculous bigotry justifying crap, even if we only find a "Real Racist" in 1% or less of the cases. We should assume you're a Clueless Asshole Racism Enabler and treat you accordingly by having your words Stopped, Questioned and Vigorously Frisked until they prove otherwise to our satisfaction.
It's for the Public Good and only "Fair" isn't it? Besides if it makes people like Cohen Too Afraid to Write Stupid Ass Columns Like These then clearly it's a worthwhile public policy to pursue.
Next time, I think he'll "Think Twice" before hitting Publish. Or Else.
