It's so funny to hear these Republican Senators warn Democrats that they will "rue the day" that they passed filibuster reform. What exactly are they going to do? They say that when they have power, we'll end up with more Justices like Scalia and Thomas. But guess what, we got those horrible excuses for judges when the filibuster was still intact. As revenge, will a Republican president nominate people who are more reactionary, and even less qualified? It is difficult to imagine what such a person would look like. And are they saying they will nominate the most whacko, right-wing judges, just to get the goat of those stupid Democrats who voted in favor of the nuclear option? Are they going to relinquish their responsibility to have well-informed, experienced judges in a fit of pique because they didn't get their way on the filibuster? I say let them go for it. The electorate will hold them responsible for whoever they pick, and if they choose avowed segregationists and secessionists, they will pay the price at the polls. That's why we know their threats of payback are empty; it's nearly impossible for them to get any more right-wing than they already are, and the country, by and large, already hates virtually everything they stand for. They can put more insane judges on the bench only at their own peril.
