With Black Friday Thursday coming up fast, here's something to keep in mind.
It's been mentioned in passing here that smart tvs can spy on their owners. Now it's been proven for one brand. I suspect the problem doesn't stop there.
Not only is your tv watching being monitored, the contents of any attached USB drive is also reported.
It would easily be possible to infer the presence of adult content or files that had been downloaded from file sharing sites. My wife was shocked to see our children's names being transmitted in the name of a Christmas video file that we had watched from USB.
There is an option to disable such reporting, but
turning it off has no effect. The company in question says you agreed to the Terms and Conditions when you bought the tv.
The advice we have been given is that unfortunately as you accepted the Terms and Conditions on your TV, your concerns would be best directed to the retailer. We understand you feel you should have been made aware of these T's and C's at the point of sale, and for obvious reasons LG are unable to pass comment on their actions.
So what is to be done?
Refusing to buy smart tvs would seem logical to me.
