Received this e-mail today from Senator Ed Markey (D. MA) regarding John Boehner (R. OH) and the Employee Non-Discrimination Act:
In America, everyone should be treated equally under the law. And no one should be afraid of being fired from their jobs because of who they are or whom they love.
I joined my colleagues in the Senate to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) to end workplace discrimination against LGBT individuals. It’s a bipartisan measure that has support from an overwhelming majority of the American public, as well as a good deal of the business community.
But even before the Senate took action, Speaker John Boehner and his extreme Tea Party members came out in opposition.
Equality may not be high up on the Tea Party’s priority list, but it’s high up on mine. Join me in demanding fairness for our LGBT community -- urge the House to take immediate action to end employment discrimination.

Members of the LGBT community are our neighbors, our coworkers, our family and friends. They deserve the same legal protections against workplace discrimination that any hardworking person from Massachusetts deserves.
The Employment Non-Discrimination Act is a critical step toward achieving true equality in America. That’s why I’ve supported the measure ever since it was first introduced in 1994.
Now this bill has passed the Senate for the very first time. The House needs to take this bill up. I am not willing to sit by and watch as the Tea Party in the House obstructs yet another vital step toward progress in America. We need to close this chapter of discrimination in our nation’s history. I was very proud when the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act, a law I voted against in 1996, was overturned earlier this year. Passing ENDA is the next step.
Join me to demand the House get to work right now to end employment discrimination against the LGBT community. Add your name to the petition today.
