Freedom means both good things and bad things happen. Freedom to so many appears to imply that someone else has to be oppressed for they themselves to appear to be free.
For many on the right allowing people to be free from discrimination is somehow by some twisted logic in fact repressing them.
Freedom and justice cannot be parceled out in pieces to suit political convenience. I don't believe you can stand for freedom for one group of people and deny it to others.
Coretta Scott King
Their concept appears to be once all people think the same way, behave in the same fashion and have the same god that therein lies the road to freedom.
One could point to history and ideologies of the past to show the abject and brutal failure of such philosophy. Humanity has in general paid an awful price for such narrow minded concepts of where freedom lies. The very thought that only by denying rights to others can you yourself be free, leads down a very dark and dangerous road indeed.
Insecurity and fear are the enemies of freedom and hate the tool of oppression.
Freedom is a challenge, and if when facing that challenge you hide behind dogma then you have already failed the test.
Freedom also requires the tools to be free from abuse hence laws to protect those that cannot protect themselves can be agreed.
Once you can accept that all others have equal rights, then you yourself can be truly free.
Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth.
John F. Kennedy
Non -conformity has so scared the right wing that any concept of what freedom actually means is nigh on impossible. Just listen to the howls of "traitor to the conservative cause" at this time, then tell me in what direction freedom lies. Be very careful when denying others rights; that in the end your own rights might will be denied.
Its time HR1755 was passed.
