We've all had fun with the War on Christmastm stuff that drives Fox and Friends apoplectic. But I don't think they know how serious it is. You see, it's not a War on Chistmas anymore. That is but a mere skirmish in the larger strategic plan. The war, you see, is the War on Christ himself and all his followers!
If you hadn't heard of the War on Christ, don't worry, you are not alone. It was only announced that this was going on recently in a dramatic blog post by Erick, son of Erick. Oh yes, Mr. Erickson interpreted the recent dustup between a cable network and a reality TV actor they have under contract as a major defeat for Jesus Christ.
The only surprise is that the Christians of Duck Dynasty could last there as long as they did. A&E has as much right to do this as you have to turn the channel. But they have clearly aligned themselves against us in the culture wars.
The world is at war with Christ and those who put their faith in Christ.
Yes, this is the millionth Duck Dynasty diary but I'm just going to focus on this Erickson post under the
fleur de kos.
First, I just can't square with Jesus being an anti-gay bigot. Erickson is saying that the negative reaction that Mr. Robertson received is part of the War on Christ. Here are all the anti-gay remarks Jesus said in the Gospels.
This space intentionally left blank.
Second, Erickson doesn't actually show Robertson's quotes. He just blithely states that Robertson "spoke openly of his Christian faith." But is Christian doctrine really that homosexuality, bestiality and terrorism are on the same level? If you were attracted to and intimate with someone of the same sex that's no different than raping an animal or flying airplanes full of people into buildings full of people?
That's what people are reacting to. Let's do a quick thought experiment. Let's pretend the remarks went something like (and were limited to) this:
Homosexuality is not something I've ever been interested in. I've never been sexually attracted to another man. And even if I had been, the Bible teaches us that it is a sin. So if I had been attracted to another man, I hope I would have resisted the temptation.
Is something like that going to draw the kind of attention and outrage that his actual remarks did? I don't think so. Eyerolls, yes; outrage, no. It's still speaking "openly of his Christian faith" while not taking it to absurd levels that only denigrate LGBT people. Rejecting the notion that same sex relationships are on par with bestiality and terrorism is not waging a War on Christ.
Finally I was just so appalled that I learned about the War on Christ on Red State, I searched for where else I could have heard the news. It turns out that there are lots of news stories about it. They just don't use the WoC term.
Definitely something going on here. In the post Erickson warns his readers "You will be made to care. You will not be given the option of silence or the sidelines." Oh, they care alright and they are hardly silent or sitting on the sidelines.
