Only a fringe have a problem with this.
Republicans are hip on capturing the youth vote, but that
pesky intolerance keeps getting in the way!
But equality isn't just a problem with the youth vote. As it turns out, the rest of America is following the kids' lead.
Public support for gay marriage has hit a new high as Americans increasingly see homosexuality not as a choice but as a way some people are, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
The poll shows that 58 percent of Americans now believe it should be legal for gay and lesbian couples to get married; 36 percent say it should be illegal. Public attitudes toward gay marriage are a mirror image of what they were a decade ago: in 2003, 37 percent favored gay nuptials, and 55 percent opposed them.
Just think, Howard Dean was "unelectable" in 2003 because of his support of
civil unions. Just a decade later, civil unions seem like a quaint little half measure (because it is) as the nation has evolved at breakneck speeds. Now, only a shrinking (and dying) fringe resists the inevitable.
And the GOP, which built much of their electoral strategy in the 2000s around bigoted state ballot initiatives, now gets its comeuppance.
It's the feel-good story of the year.
