Openly gay and proudly self-loathing teabagger Doug Mainwaring, gave the haters at today's National Organization for Marriage rally some of the biggest applause moments of the day. Mainwaring, founder of the National Capital Tea Party Patriots was a huge hit with the crowd, not unlike the love the British heaped on Benedict Arnold back in 1780, coincidentally a year these NOM people can totally relate to.
Same-sex marriage will not redefine marriage, it will undefine it, and unravel it and in so doing will undefine children. This is not progressive legislation. This is regressive. As a gay man, I can state catagorically, it is not homophobic to oppose same sex marriage. In fact, it is very wise to maintain marriage as it has always been. To the Supreme Court, legislators and jurists around the country: slow this train down. Ignore the media's relentless manufactured urgency to institute same-sex marriage. Slow down. Put on the breaks. Thank you.
I see what you did there, Doug. Because you are like, totally gay but hate yourself for it, you saw fit to absolve the other haters in the crowd of their homophobia by unilaterally deciding that they can't possibly be bigots because you are one too. Or something like that. Your logic is so ill-defined, that's the best I can parse this load of verbal manure. At least the dimwits you were speaking to ate it up. Give yourself a pat on the back.
Just how scrambled is Mainwaring's brain? Take a read of this essay he wrote earlier this month. I'll provide a few highlights of how twisted a sister he really is.
The notion of same-sex marriage is implausible, yet political correctness has made stating the obvious a risky business. Genderless marriage is not marriage at all. It is something else entirely.
And while same-sex marriage proponents suggest that the government should perhaps just stay out of their private lives, the fact is, now that children are being engineered for gay and lesbian couples, a process that involves multiple other adults who have potential legal custody claims on these children, the potential for government’s involvement in these same-sex marriage households is staggering.
Statists see great value in slowly chipping away at the bedrock of American culture: faith and family life. The more that traditional families are weakened in our daily experience by our laws, the more that government is able to freely insert itself into our lives in an authoritarian way. And it will.
Thanks for that, Doug. It would be just awful if authoritarians got their way. NOM and the Family Research Council and all the rest of the hate groups just hate them some authoritarians.
Now speaking of that rally NOM held today. Their smarmy leader, Brian Brown, recently got back from Paris where he witnessed hundreds of thousands of people rallying against marriage equality. When Paris throws a rally, they don't mess around. Poor Brian had dreams of grandeur in his pointy little head. Alas, only a few thousand people showed up. NOM estimated the crowd to be 15,000 which, um, no. Not even close.
