[Note: I'm hoping to create a small space here in this diary where we can CIVILLY consider and, yes, speculate, about what the White House goal is with regard to their budget proposal. No name calling please.]
With regard to the President's budget proposal, I'm interested in hearing informed, non-name calling, non-judgmental discussion as to what the President's goals are and what his thought process is in terms of how to get there.
Let me give you an example (not my view):
I think the President has offered his budget to entice a segment of Republicans in the Senate to negotiate a "balanced" approach to the deficit that contains revenue increases and a lifting of the sequester. I think he believes that if he can get Elite Media on his side he can coax enough Republican Senators like Lindsey Graham and john McCain to negotiate with him and Dem Senate leadership to pass a budget that would then press a segment of the House GOP to come along. After that, he thinks he can cajole enough Dems in the House to go along.
I know debating the merits is probably the thing to be doing, but in this diary I am actually hoping to start a discussion of what we think the President is trying to do, without any judgments about it.
Do I have any takers for this discussion?
