Definitely not the most important thing going on this AM. If there are any Duke alums out there, you can help sort this out. Duke is not the NRA.
While researching a draft reply to a WAPO thread on the oft-quoted Quinnipiac poll on background checks, (http://www.quinnipiac.edu/...) I came across a ref for "Duke.edu" entitled TEN MYTHS ABOUT GUN CONTROL - Duke University.
Putting aside, for the moment, the bizarre incongruity of the articles title and its purported source...I was looking for factual data on the topic and Duke seemed a credible source for information. Oh, so wrong!!
The entire "article" was a screed of twisted information attributed to fringe groups, clubs and "professional" organizations. There, at the bottom of the article's last page, was the only myth that mattered.
"Copyright October 1994, NRA Institute for Legislative Action. This is the electronic version of the "10 Myths of Gun Control" brochure distributed by NRA. To obtain paper copies of this brochure, please call NRA Grassroots at 800/392-8683."
The entire thing was an NRA screed. This variation on the False Flag tactic, combined with "push polls", is yet another ooze of pollution poisoning the publics reservoir of factual information. It won't stand.
I tried to email Duke, but are actually being cyber-attacked this am, phishing, and their emails are down. So, I left a tel msg for their "brand manager" and used a different email conduit to contact their school of journalism as well.
So, if there are interested Alums out there, don't let this "false flag" remain planted.
My email to Duke:
The NRA appears to be falsely claiming Duke Univ is the author of "Ten Myths About Control", which is, in fact, a screed written by the NRA. This web address improperly uses "duke.edu" in a transparent attempt to obtain credibility by misusing the highly regarded reputation of Duke .

This matter came to my attention while researching a gun regulation debate, specifically the Quinnipiac poll on support of background checks.
I sincerely hope Duke takes steps necessary to rebuff this clumsy and ineffective attempt to trade on Duke's good name.
