Maybe they'll elope to Benghazi
The IRS scandal has
fizzled to the point that even Darrell Issa is
pretending he never said the White House was involved. So, with the death of conservative dreams of an Obama impeachment over IRS-a-palazoo, what's a wingnut to do?
The answer, apparently, is to go back to Benghazi, even if the route to get there is more than a little bit circuitous:
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Wednesday that he would place a hold on all White House nominees to the State Department until President Obama nominated an inspector general (IG) to the department.
And how does that connect to Benghazi?
The Texas lawmaker invoked last year's attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya, while stressing the need for an IG.
"During the last five years, there have been deadly attacks on U.S. diplomatic personnel in Libya, mismanagement of security contractors at our embassy in Afghanistan, and hundreds of millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars wasted for police training in Iraq," Cruz said. "These issues highlight the State Department's need for an Inspector General as soon as possible."
Yeesh, talk about a bank shot. Basically, Cruz seems to be saying that the lack of an IG for an office in the State Department led to waste and mismanagement, which in turn led to Benghazi, which probably explains the coverup. Or something. But it doesn't matter that there are literally no facts there there for Cruz's theory, wingnuts will buy into it because it sort of seems logical—as long as you're too lazy to bother yourself with the complete lack of evidence bolstering Cruz's contention.
