Teacher's Comments from Ms. Doxsey:
My Students: Kids today can pick up almost any electronic gadget, play it, and within no time at all master it and become bored, searching for the newest "new thing". By giving them the tools to design their own robots, these budding engineers will be designing our future world.
I am teaching in a newly-created science lab in a suburban PK-5 school adjacent to a major military installation. Most of our students come from single parent homes due to overseas deployments. Due to their strained family lives, most of our students have never traveled in a vehicle across country to experience hands-on geography. Their world is limited to what they see on television or play in video games. Their horizons need to be expanded.
My Project: This robotics kit will serve as an entry level STEM activity for 2-3 students and the teacher to learn about robotics. The students will build a light-sensing robot with the kit, and a robot which can negotiate its way through a simple maze. Once the first students learn how to build and program the robots, they will in turn teach other students. Besides learning about robotics and programming, the students will also learn teamwork.
This entry level robotics kit will give my students exposure to something they have never done before in the STEM fields, and may very well kindle a fire in them to learn more about robotics and programming.
COMPLETED!
Donations of ANY size DID make a BIG difference!
