A headline in the Times today just about says it:
"How American Hopes for a Deal in Egypt Were Undercut"
Those darn Egyptians don't get it. This is all about us. They need to get with the program.
It doesn't matter who's in charge: Republican or Democrats, our foreign policy can be summed up in a phrase, "Do what we say or we won't give you anymore guns."
Maybe it is time to take another look at our consistent record of supporting despots and dictators. Here are some who come to mind: Noriega, Saddam, Bin Laden, Marcos, Papa Doc, The Shah of Iran, Mubarak, The Assads of Syria, Qaddafi, Pinochet, Batista, Karzai, I'm positive, if I took another two minutes I could come up with more. Several of these criminals we've been "for" before we were "against. We have wasted trillions of taxpayer dollars deposing or propping up people our government likes while the people in their countries have been treated like dirt.
Egypt is just another example. We supported Mubarak and then Morsi then the Military which staged the coup to oust our man Morsi who replaced our man Mubarak.
I don't think giving more weapons will be the solution here. Nor do I think giving Israel more weapons is the way to get the Israeli government to stop building new settlements and actually begin a serious dialog with the Palestinians.
I am not an Isolationist, but we need to stop secret policies which back dictators and militaries. We need to stop putting our interests first because: 1) Other countries are not American suburbs, 2) We can't afford more wars, 3) we can't afford to create more terrorists, 4) we need to concentrate on fixing our own country and stop meddling in other countries.
