Received this e-mail from the Human Rights Campaign who are recruiting more to join so they can take out one of the biggest homophobes running for office this year:
Ken Cuccinelli, the candidate for Governor of Virginia, recently said he stands by his belief that LGBT people are soulless and "self-destructive."
If Cuccinelli wins, he'd be leading one of our nation's most critical swing states – in Washington D.C.'s backyard.
Even worse, with all eyes trained on this high-profile, very close race, a Cuccinelli victory would send a message to both parties for the 2014 elections that voters don't care that much about equality. We can't let that happen.
That's why HRC is putting organizers on the ground in crucial Virginia districts and mobilizing tens of thousands of HRC supporters in the state. That's why I urgently request that you join HRC right now.
We need your help to make a statement at the ballot box. Join HRC in the next 48 hours to help expand equality across the country:

Here's the thing about Ken Cuccinelli: he's not alone. Elected officials across the country share his views – and they're working every day to eliminate or gut hard-fought protections for LGBT Americans.
Laws can be undone in a heartbeat. It took years to win thirteen states with marriage equality and a DOMA-free country. We can't afford to turn back the clock.
That's why the fight in Virginia is just one small part of what we're doing. We are working to promote equality a hundred different ways: federal employment protections, anti-bullying laws, adoption laws, marriage recognition in cities, and three looming state marriage battles in Illinois, Hawaii, and New Jersey. Even in states that are incredibly intolerant, we're laying the groundwork, piece by piece.
We have to engage in these places precisely because the battle is uphill. That's our mission.
And it's working. Just over a week after HRC President Chad Griffin paid a high-profile visit to Richmond, Virginia, three city council members introduced a measure to recognize same-sex marriages in the city. Salt Lake City, Utah and Omaha, Nebraska both passed anti-discrimination ordinances last year. These small steps lead to bigger steps – and they're exactly the kind of brave actions we're fighting for.
Now we just need supporters like you to join HRC and help fund our work.
You can make 2013 an historic year for this movement. Join HRC now to claim your HRC sunglasses that you can proudly wear as a signal of your support:

I deeply believe equality is inevitable. But from here, our push to win equality for everyone, everywhere will only grow harder. So not only do we all truly value your support, we need it.
Sincerely,
Marty Rouse
Field Director
P.S. In case you already mailed in a check or gave to HRC some other way, I want to just say thank you so much. If you haven't yet had a chance to contribute, please make your gift now. The fight for equality and recognition for all depends on every one of us.
