Texas Sen. John Cornyn wants to win via disenfranchisement, not ideas.
Meteor Blades
talked earlier about the federal lawsuit over Texas efforts to disenfranchise voters. But I want to highlight the one sentence from Sen. John Cornyn that says it all:
"Facts mean little to a politicized Justice Department bent on inserting itself into the sovereign affairs of Texas and a lame-duck administration trying to turn our state blue," Cornyn said.
Actually, the facts are not in doubt. The facts are that given current demographic trends, Texas
will turn Blue unless Republicans can find ways to structurally prevent Democratic base groups from electoral participation.
And as long as Cornyn sits in the United States Senate, yeah, it's the feds' business to protect the franchise against Republican efforts to destroy it. Because ultimately, this is the only path for Republicans to retain any sort of long-term electoral relevance absent a complete reworking of the ideological underpinnings of the party.
And yeah, that ain't gonna happen.
