According to a recent Reuters/Ispos poll, only 9% of the American public supports the U.S. Armed Forces intervening in the ongoing civil war in Syria.
It appears to me that the "war hawk" contingent in this country is only 9% of the American people. I have never seen an opinion poll in which support for U.S. military intervention in a foreign country where support for intervention was that low. In fact, even if it's proven that Syrian President Bashir Al-Assad used chemical weapons against the anti-Assad rebels, support for U.S. intervention in Syria would only be at 25%.
However, to suggest that 91% of the American people are anti-war activists would be highly inaccurate. In fact, 60% of the American people believe that the U.S. should not intervene in the Syrian civil war, and that would drop to 46% if it's proven that Al-Assad used chemical weapons against the rebels. In fact, I'd argue that 91% is the hypothetical ceiling for U.S. military intervention in a foreign country, although the U.S. is currently too war-weary for public support for U.S. military intervention in Syria to be even remotely close to that.
It would appear to be that the rabid supporters of the military-industrial complex are only 9% of the American public, and that appears to be the floor for public support for U.S. military intervention in a foreign country.
