Received this e-mail today from Senator Kay Hagan (D. NC):
The North Carolina budget -- passed by our legislature and signed by our governor -- just took almost half a billion dollars away from our state's public education system.
The legislature has gone too far. They’re not just hurting moms and dads in North Carolina -- they’re failing our children.
We know how important quality education is for our young people and our economic recovery. And it's time to tell the General Assembly exactly how we feel about this backwards budget.
Let the General Assembly know that you support North Carolina’s children. Sign the petition to reinstate the full education budget today:

I’m a mother of three wonderful children. And ever since they were little, when I look at them, I see what every parent in America sees -- our future.
North Carolina’s children deserve better than these backwards priorities. They deserve a quality public education system that will prepare them for college or a career. They deserve teachers who are supported. They deserve schools that aren’t crumbling and all the textbooks and resources they need to learn.
We absolutely need to cut wasteful spending wherever we can. But we can't balance the budget on the backs of our students. Education needs to be a top priority. And if you agree, sign the petition and let Raleigh know:

I’m standing up for the children of North Carolina. Thank you for joining me.
Kay
