This is one of those things that doesn't get better with repetition.
Rep. Ted Yoho, ladles and gentlemoons:
I had a little fun with [John] Boehner and told him about the sun tanning tax. He goes, ‘I didn’t know it was in there,’ and I said, ‘Yes, it’s a ten percent tax.’ He goes, ‘Well, that’s not that big of a deal.’ I said, ‘It’s a racist tax.’ He goes, ‘You know what, it is.’ I had an Indian doctor in our office the other day, very dark skin, with two non-dark skin people, and I asked this to him, I said, ‘Have you ever been to a tanning booth?’ and he goes, ‘No, no need.’ So therefore it’s a racist tax and I thought I might need to get to a sun tanning booth so I can come out and say I’ve been disenfranchised because I got taxed because of the color of my skin. As crazy as that sounds, that’s what the left does right…
Ah ha ha. Yeah, except this one has been going around for years, thanks to crazy people like Allen West (who was kidding) and King of the Lizard People Glenn Beck, Esq. and guests, who may or may not have been kidding because no rational mind can parse out what Glenn Beck and guests are going on about during one of their little sessions and live to tell the tale.
More to the point, I refuse to believe that John Boehner was previously unaware of a tax on tanning beds. I was willing to buy that you talk to random ethnic-looking strangers about their tanning practices, that seems plausible, but you lost me on Boehner being unawares of that particular longtime rightwing trope.
I had to check the date on that story just to make sure it wasn't something from a few years ago masquerading as new. Nope, no such luck. Still, ten points for commitment to the bit. He then went on to support a Steve Stockman effort to something-something Obama's birth certificate, so I guess it was golden oldies day at the ol' Yoho deep thought discount warehouse and breadcrumb processing plant; whatever rallies the crowd, I suppose.
