The who's who of American NeoCons acting through their successor organization to the now discredited PNAC (who was installment in promoting the Iraq War) called the Foreign Policy Initiative have joined with the powerful lobby AIPAC to try to wreck the newly announced interim agreement with Iran to scale back its nuclear program, while negotiating a long term accord with Iran on limiting its nuclear program.
Negotiators Put Final Touches on Iran Accord
By MICHAEL R. GORDON and ERIC SCHMITT
The agreement faced opposition from Iranian hard-liners and Israeli leaders, as well as heavy criticism from some American lawmakers, who have threatened to approve further sanctions despite President Obama’s promise of a veto.
The Obama administration hailed the temporary agreement on Sunday as an important step that would halt many of Iran’s nuclear efforts, giving international negotiators time to pursue a more comprehensive and durable agreement that would roll back much of Iran’s program and ensure that it could be used only for peaceful purposes.
Foreign Policy Initiative's Open Letter is signed by many of the NeoCons who endorsed George Bush's conquest of Iraq.
Here are a few of their names:
Elliott Abrams (Bush's Senior Director on the National Security Council for Near East and North African Affairs)
Congresswoman Shelley Berkley
Max Boot
Ambassador L. Paul Bremer (Bush's former US military ruler of Iraq)
Senator Norm Coleman
Douglas J. Feith (Bush's Under Secretary of Defense for Policy who managed the US invasion of Iraq)
Dr. Frederick W. Kagan
Dr. Robert Kagan
Dr. William Kristol
Senator Joseph Lieberman
Robert C. McFarlane
Governor Tim Pawlenty
John Podhoretz
Dan Senor (adviser in the Bush White House)
Some prominent American Jews are now pushing back against AIPAC's quest for military action against Iran.
NJDC chief raps AIPAC, AJC on Iran sanctions lobbying
By Ron Kampeas
But Rabbi Jack Moline, the incoming director of the National Jewish Democratic Council, thinks some of the pro-Israel groups are pushing too hard, and he is not mincing words in saying so.
In an interview with JTA, he accused the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and the American Jewish Committee of imposing a “litmus test” on senators and using “strong-arm tactics.”
“It isn’t the business of any organization to be setting up a litmus test on a piece of legislation,” Moline said.
The tone of Moline’s remarks is unusual coming from the NJDC, which generally refrains from pointed criticism of leading pro-Israel groups.
Here is the relevant passage from my story today:
Rabbi Jack Moline, the NJDC’s executive director, accused AIPAC and the American Jewish Committee of “strong-arm tactics, essentially threatening people that if they don’t vote a particular way, that somehow that makes them anti-Israel or means the abandonment of the Jewish community.”
This letter from
Foreign Policy Initiative was signed by the same people who were so influential on misguiding America into an invasion of Iraq, who now along with AIPAC are now trying to promote a military solution to Iran's Nuclear Program. To keep their goal of a War against Iran alive they have pulled out all the stops to derail this new agreement with Iran on limiting its nuclear program.
Did we forget so soon that these are the same NeoCons that misled the US into a unnecessary invasion of Iraq with their paranoiac delusions as a basis for a tragic national misadventure of monumental proportions? Why should our Senators be swayed by their distortions now?
Contact your Senators and demand that they vote NO on these "Enhanced Sanctions" that would only pave the way toward US military action against Iran. Urge them to support President Obama's successful initiative on Iran.
