The U.S. Attorney’s office today subpoenaed the Gov. Chris Christie re-election campaign and the New Jersey Republican State Committee, PolitickerNJ has learned.
“Patton Boggs has been retained to represent the Christie for Governor re-election campaign and the New Jersey Republican State Committee in connection with investigations being conducted by the US Attorney’s Office and the legislative committee," said Patton Boggs attorney, Mark Sheridan.
"We can confirm that the Christie for Governor re-election campaign and the New Jersey Republican State Committee received subpoenas for documents from the U.S. Attorney’s office, in addition to the subpoena the campaign previously received from the state legislative committee," he siad. "All three subpoenas focus on the closure of lanes on the George Washington Bridge. The campaign and the state party intend to cooperate with the U.S. Attorney’s office and the state legislative committee and will respond to the subpoenas accordingly.”

Update :
Former assistant U.S. Attorney Reid Schar, now a partner at Jenner & Block LLP, was tapped to become special council to the state legislative committee looking into the episode.
Schar led the investigation team that brought down former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was convicted of corruption and sentenced to 14 years in prison. He also helped secure a conviction against Blagojevich fund raiser Tony Rezko.
