There are many anti-choice stories about women who had an abortion, not knowing they were carrying more than one embryo, but the twin survived. Based on the little I know about how abortions work, I am puzzled.
The latest story among the Forced Birthers regards an abortion that supposedly took place at six weeks. http://www.lifenews.com/...
I would think that the type of abortion that would occur at that stage would not zero in on a single fetus but would have to destroy anything in the womb. I know that when selective reductions are performed later in the pregnancy, something is injected into the individual fetuses. But would that type of procedure ever be performed if you were not aware of multiple fetuses?
I am not a scientist nor an expert by any means. But I am sure some of you are. So is this possible?
True or not, I do not see why the Forced Birthers love these stories so much. If anything, were I religious, I would take it as a lesson that if "god" really wanted a person to be born it could make it happen.
While we are at it. Maybe someone could also explain why Christians emphasize abortion and homosexuality over issues Christ is actually alleged to have discussed? While the Old Testament does urge the Jews to be "fruitful," it also associates "life" with the ability to draw breath and sets out a law that if a pregnant woman is attacked and the fetus is lost "but there is no harm" then it is not murder. Why would anyone think that an allegedly loving and all knowing god would place a soul in a fetus that was never going to become a person?
Instead of taking healthcare from actual living people in an effort to try and prevent an abortion that will probably occur anyway, or, harassing women, some of whom desperately want children but have to end pregnancies that threaten their health or would result in the birth of a child that would ultimately suffer horrible pain and die, why don't those who call themselves "pro-life" focus more on trying to provide actual living children with food, clean water, and healthcare?
But of course I am not alone on that one. When even the Pope thinks you are going too far...
UPDATE: One of our posters has shared data that shows that early termination can fail. However that only proves that it could have been a failed abortion. Would there be evidence that early that a "twin" was aborted?
