Do you know about the Respectful Revolution Project?
I wrote about this several months ago, but I wanted to write about it again. The Keystone pipeline decision is on all our minds and it's what got me thinking again about the Respectful Revolution. Strangely the XL pipeline has pitted different parts of our Progressive community against each other. On the one hand are environmentalists and activists and on the other hand is Labor. I know the argument being made is if the pipeline isn't built those filthy, toxic Canadian tar sands are still going to be piped via other pipelines and so all that carbon is going to be released anyway. We also all know it's an unsustainable situation to keep burning fossil fuels. How ultimately foolish humans are to keep accelerating a situation that is finite and can't continue and also ruins the planet for our own survival. It is simply nihilistic. There is no other thing to call it.
Well, there are other ways. In Chico, CA you'd be amazed at our local community. It feels so good. When I was ill two years ago, I experienced the full support it. If you're part of this community, there are always others that help. I felt so blessed and humbled. It's astonishing to me that this is amazing yet really shouldn't be. It should be the norm and not the exception.
There are so many wonderful Progressive people in Chico. And there has been a very distinct critical mass that's been achieved. This consciousness has become big enough that it births others into Progressive Community projects. I'll tell you this, even though Chico is surrounded by a "sea of red," it is a super place to be. We are so lucky to have every type of food grown and raised all around us. The farmer's market simply couldn't be better. The town is not too big and really easy to ride a bike to anywhere you need to go (it's flat).
Locally a friend of mine, Wendy Ardell along with Linda Furr and Sandy Fisher started the "Chico Cloth" Project. This came about due to the collapse of buildings in Bangladesh that were sweat shops making our clothes. The idea is to NOT buy new clothes but go to used clothing stores instead to buy clothes or take them and create new clothes out of them. At the same time the project gets people to grow flax locally that will be made into clothing. It is just in it's infancy stage, but I hope it is a total local success. If it is, it will spread. Please read about it here: http://www.newsreview.com/...
A local Chico couple, Gerard Ungerman and Stacey Wear, realized what an amazing community we have and started The Respectful Revolution.
They started documeting stories of the different things folks were doing locally outside of the mainstream. Then they took that concept out into the country at large to do the same...document stories of amazing things folks are doing all across the country that are green and sustainable or create community consciousness and support.
Here is their mission statement: THE RESPECTFUL REVOLUTION IS A NATIONAL, NOT-FOR-PROFIT ADVOCACY PROJECT SEEKING TO DOCUMENT POSITIVE ACTION AND INSPIRE CHANGE.
I hope you find some time to check out some of their work. It's truly inspiring stuff. You can also help support the Respectful Revolution project. Here's their web site: http://www.respectfulrevolution.org/
They also have a youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/...
Of course they have a facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/...
Well I'm going to put up one of their short documentaries as an example. It makes me so happy to learn about what people are doing out there.
Is there a Respectful Revolution where you live? Tell me about it.

by EagleOfFreedom ♥ for Seattle and Puget Sound Kossacks
I'm so impressed with the Seattle Kossacks, right now. EagleOfFreedom offered to take up the reins of collecting local Kossacks for camaraderie and action. In a very short time he started the group, communicated with me, set the event and got almost a dozen folks to join the ranks in person. Kudos!
So, you Seattle Kossacks, you've got a group now and John Crapper has offered to be an admin of the group. How swell is that?
SEATTLE KOSSACKS! Look for each other in the comments and gather together, invite one another and let's see more folk show up at the next event. AND the next action event.
To quote one of the attendees:
Once again Kossacks prove they are for real.

SFKossacks Welcome Matching Mole and bwren
with a Birding Event Plus Dinner
by navajo ♥ for SFKossacks
Last Sunday, matching mole, who flew in from the East Coast, and bwren, who flew in from Seattle, were picked up and chaffeured by the founder of Dawn Chorus, lineatus. She drove them to meet with other SFKossacks and Central Valley Kossacks to do some bird watching in the Grizzly Island Wildlife Area on San Francisco Bay. I'll leave the telling of that story up to lineatus in her Sunday morning series.
I'll be covering the dinner we had that evening to welcome our out-of-towners.
Please visit navajo's diary for descriptions of above photos and access to MORE photos! Enjoy! You can join SFKossacks by sending a Kosmail to navajo.
by randallt ♥ for DKos Asheville
Wow, the standard setters for Daily Kos group organizing just one-upped the bar again! Not only do they meet for socializing, they get themselves on radio shows to advertise the event, they invite local candidates and progressive causes to speak to our Kossacks and then fully cater an event to reward all attendees. Wow. Just wow.
More than 30 Kossacks got together amping up and organizing the Asheville atmosphere for getting out the vote. Here's one photo:
