Is there anyone more aware of how war-weary Americans are than the likes of people like Assad or Putin? You think they're aware of our worn-out all-volunteer military? With their record suicide rates? Do you think they're aware that Americans have soured on war since Bush/Cheney used up USA's "warring capital" on a fabrication? American said as much on Syria. The polls said "No, I don't want to intervene in Syria because it's either another lie from our government, or it's just simply none of my concern".
But that has never stopped the Republicans from hurling insults to our President who campaigned on dialing down the Bush/Cheney war machine. And the latest public insult comes from House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.):
From Laura Basset @ Huff Post via FOX
Rogers said Obama missed the opportunity to use military force in Ukraine and now has "only economic options."
“There is not a lot of options on the table and candidly, I’m a fairly hawkish guy, sending more naval forces to operate in the Black Sea is really not a very good idea, given that we know that that day has long passed,” he said. “And unless you’re intending to use them, I wouldn’t send them."
This convenient offensive assessment was in addition to other insults describing Obama as playing marbles while Putin plays chess. But the thing that really stands out for me is the question of what Rogers is trying to achieve. Does he really think that sending troops into Ukraine before they ousted their president would have been a wise move? Does he think we could have mobilized troops in that narrow window after they ousted their president and when Putin sent in troops? Of course not! And he and Putin both know it.
Yeah, somebody here was playing marbles. And it's the filthy, rancid leftover game started by Bush/Cheney. That marble game is still in progress via the actions of opportunists making their moves while America is still splitting in two. And to make it worse, we have patriotic Americans in the republican party going on TV and shouting to the world what a failure Obama is, while simultaneously inferring that if we'd only timed it just right we could have gone head to head against a military super power on the other side of the world.
Put up or shut up, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.). If you think we should have battle ships within firing range of Crimea then say it. Because whether America sent troops in before or after the ouster of Ukraine's president the result would have been the same. War. So if you want war, say it. And quit using s hypothetical to insult our President.
