There's a nice fellow from the Lansing Delta Township (LDT) plant in Lansing, MI that I enjoy talking to.
LDT builds GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse and once upon a time, Saturn Outlooks. I mean, some might come from Spring Hills, TN (overflow plant)... but well... majority of the vehicles concerned in the new recall come from LDT. I might be missing a few other plants, so feel free to call me out on it.
He is a 2007 temp to full hire guy... has done all sorts of jobs in general assembly. Wire harness, door line and now engine dress.
So, I asked him about the latest recall of vehicles which concern the models that go through the assembly line where he works.
The following is just a chat transcript. It's not going to offer consolation if you're griefed already by spending much money on a vehicle just to have (at the very least) concerning defects in it.
him: another gm recall
him: new ceo is cleaning house
me: oh?
him: most of the recall is for cars i build
him: side airbag harness
me: is it the side airbag harnesses themselves
me: or are you putting them in wrong
him: how do you put them in wrong
him: i did do the side airbag job back in 07
him: there is only one way to plug them in
snip.
The rest of the criticism was directed at the outcome of not ensuring it doesn't do something like that... like being too cheap.
There's a lot this guy can say about GM when it comes to business decisions and labor issues. But that's for another day.
He does brag that 3rd shift has the best quality statistics, nevertheless. Better than 1st and 2nd shift.
