And it's Wednesday. Caedy is on vacation for a couple of days so I'm filling in her slot. I will do Friday's as well unless someone else wants to do it.
The kids are on spring break, and we're coming up to the end of the school year. This is Draco's last year of high school, and I have a conundrum maybe you can help me with.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

We have time for one, maybe two more books this school year. We've covered a lot of books over the years, but I can't decide what book to assign for his last one. He's not a big reader, so this may be the last book he reads for a while, at least until he's assigned something in college. I can't decide what book to do with him.
Now, I would love to do Shakespeare, or even something older, but he can't understand those. I think it's the autism getting in the way. He has some issues with modern English, so far as vocabulary and understanding nuances goes. He's tried Shakespeare several times, he's watched Hamlet, and thinks he'd really like it, but he can't understand the language. So, I don't have any Shakespeare on my list.
He also has a 'soft stomach' so things that are too gory, or have odd mutations (there's a reason "The Island of Dr. Moreau" isn't on the poll, even though it's a favorite of mine), or anything like that and he'll get sick and won't read it. Heck, he got ill during Willow when the soldiers were turned into pigs.
Some of his favorites that we have done in the past were: Anything Sherlock Holmes, Edgar Allan Poe, "Robin Hood", "The Three Musketeers", "The Time Machine" and "His Majesty's Dragon" by Naomi Novik.
We've covered a lot of classical lit over the years, as well as modern and things in between. But I'm open to suggestions, even if we've read the book you suggest I may be able to find something else by the same author. If I can get it out of the library, get it on Kindle (Gutenburg books for example), or if we have it in the house, it will work.
So I have a short list for you all to vote on. Feel free to add your own suggestions.
