Defender of
pedophile priests and professional religious freedom victim Bill Donohue is really mad that Guinness
pulled its sponsorship from this year's New York St. Patrick's Day parade. Due to yet another year of parade sponsors denying LGBT people
the joy of celebrating their equally Irish heritage by marching while being openly proud, Guinness made this statement.
Guinness has a strong history of supporting diversity and being an advocate for equality for all.
We were hopeful that the policy of exclusion would be reversed for this year’s parade. As this has not come to pass, Guinness has withdrawn its participation. We will continue to work with community leaders to ensure that future parades have an inclusionary policy.
That's all it took for Bill Donohue to reach his boiling point. It probably flew low under his radar when
Heinken pulled out for the same reason. They are Dutch after all and collectively bound for hellfire for their wicked clog-wearing ways. But when
Sam Adams joined the fray, well that had to sting. That there is an American brew named after one of our great American forefathers. Yet it was Guinness, that most Irish of Irish beers, who proved the tipping point for Bill Donohue. Maybe it was his personal favorite, I don't know. You can almost feel the moist spittle on his keyboard with yesterday's rant.
If the Guinness corporate bullies think that this is a flash in the pan, then they don’t understand the Catholic League. But they will—we are not going away. There is a price to be paid for anti-Catholic bigotry, and that is exactly what is driving Guinness to act. Gays have never been barred from marching in any St. Patrick’s Day parade, and everyone knows it. Guinness wants to punish Catholics for holding to traditional moral values, and now they must suffer the consequences.
This is the start of an on-going protest that will send an unmistakable message to Guinness: declaring war on Catholics is risky business. The rollout of this campaign is visible here at our headquarters: the staff is busy assembling a list of Catholic organizations, Irish groups, pub owners, and all those persons and associations that have worked with us in the past, to boycott Guinness. There will be public statements, paid advertisements, and more. Of course, we will continue to blanket the media. While we will not refrain from addressing other issues, the Guinness boycott is our top priority. We have the time, the money, and the determination to conduct a full-court press. Stay tuned.
"They must suffer the consequences."
Them there are some ever so Christian fightin' words.
Bill promises to bring the full weight of the Catholic church down upon the heads of the usurpers of morality. Monolithically evil gay people are insisting on being openly gay people in front of Bill Donohue. This shall not stand. So upset was Bill, he immediately came up with a devious plan. He will apply for permission to march in this year's New York City Pride Parade carrying a sign reading "Straight is Great." That ought to show us!
Bill Donohue of the Catholic League announced today that the controversy over the New York St. Patrick’s Day parade’s ban on LGBT groups has inspired him to apply to march at the New York pride parade with a “Straight Is Great” banner.
Donohue told conservative talk show host Steve Malzberg that if his application is approved he will “bring a big wedding cake” to the pride parade, in what he seems to think would be a slight to LGBT people.
I would be very curious to have seen the look on Bill's face last evening when the organizers of the parade, Heritage of Pride, inclusively welcomed him to join the march. After all, straight
is great and there have traditionally been many straight people marching along side of us to celebrate our pride.
“Mr. Donohue and his group are free to participate in the 2014 March. His group’s presence affirms the need for this year’s Pride theme, ‘We Have Won When We’re One.’ Straight is great – as long as there’s no hate,” said David Studinski, March Director of NYC Pride. Chris Frederick, Managing Director of NYC Pride, added, “Straight allies are great. We have thousands of straight people participating in the Pride March, including Catholic groups, who support LGBT youth, families and married couples.” GLAAD's Commentator Accountability Project provided background information on Bill Donohue's recent statements on LGBT people. On February 27, 2014, Donohue gave a video interview with World Over with Raymond Arroyo in which he stated, "If I wanted to get into their gay pride parade with my own float with big banners saying 'straight is great,' they would have a right to feel put-upon and I wouldn't do that to them."
Now Bill is truly in a pickle. His petulant little tantrum has earned him an invitation to walk alongside all of those filthy LGBT people and those who love us. Will he do it or will he back out and look even more the fool? However this unfolds, it is going to be entertaining to watch.
As Bill weighs his options, it is worth reminding him that his boss recently told him to cool it with the hate talk.
"Who am I to judge a gay person of goodwill who seeks the Lord?" the pontiff said, speaking in Italian. "You can't marginalize these people."
Perhaps Bill can't speak Italian, but that is really no excuse, what with with Google Translator. It's not a perfect tool, mind you, but is more than capable of translating that simple message of tolerance for him.
