I guess I'm just an old fuddy-duddy, but I'm really offended by all the profanity in our world -- including that used in "Daily Kos" writings!
I've always felt that profanity was the last resort of those who've run out of ideas. When I read a post loaded with f-bombs, scatological remarks, etc. I immediately lower my estimation of that person's IQ. Knee-jerk reaction, I'll admit. But I'm not the only person who feels this way.
I realize that people throw in profanity as a) attention-getters, b) a means of showing anger and c) because they can't think of better words. But using language that alienates many of the very people you're trying to persuade is defeating your purpose.
So, think about it. Before you throw in the profanity, ask yourself, "Is there a better way to say this?" And take the high, classy road. Show your intelligence -- not your mastery of the profane.
