Last night, Stephen Colbert mocked Fox News for their outrage over Obama pushing for equal pay for women.
CHRIS JANSING (4/8/2014): President Obama will sign two executive orders aimed at closing the pay gap between men and women, and giving women more information — salary transparency — so they know if they're being paid fairly.
Hey, there's already plenty of transparency. That's why it's called the glass ceiling. (audience laughter) You don't want to stand on that thing in a skirt.
Video and full transcript below the fold.
Nation, I don't think it's any secret, and I hope everybody out there knows it, I am a huge fan of women. But I don't feel I need to pander to them. They're too smart for that. Isn't that right, ladies? (massive cheering from women in audience)
Sadly, our Co-pander-in-Chief spent yesterday kissing up to women on something called Equal Pay Day. Jim?
BARACK OBAMA (4/8/2014): Today, the average full-time working woman earns just 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. ... Equal Pay Day means that a woman has to work about this far in to 2014 to earn what a man earned in 2013.
Yes, to get the same amount of pay, a woman's work year is three months longer. So good news, ladies. If you're 38 years old, financially you're just 29. (audience laughter)
And the President didn't just talk in front of women. He did something for them.
Besides, Obama is a big fat hypocrite.
FOX NEWS (4/7/2014): One recent study found the median salary for female staffers at the White House is 88 cents for every dollar a male staffer earns.
Oooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I heard one woman in the White House doesn't get paid at all!
In fact, she has been forced to grow her own food! It's sad. (audience laughter and applause)
Folks, I tell you, this is absolutely nothing but a cheap political stunt to court women voters by responding to their concerns. It's shameful. And the TV agrees.
ED HENRY (4/8/2014): It's also clearly about politics in November, because Democrats are trying to put Republicans on defense with female voters.
SEN. TED CRUZ, R-TX (4/8/2014): This has nothing to do with actually improving the situation of women in the workplace.
ANDREA TANTAROS (4/8/2014): The President's just hoping that the 30,000-foot message that people will take home will be, all right, Republicans are against equal pay for women, and President Obama's for it.
Great point, Tantaros. And you know Fox doesn't pay her any less because she's a woman. They pay her less because she's a brunette.
We'll be right back.
