If this has been diaried elsewhere I'll pull the plug but I haven't seen it anywhere here so I guess this falls on me.
Here in New Mexico we are governed by the lovely and talented Susana Martinez who appears to be in the running for next woman President next vindictive Chris Christy. Mother Jones has just published an article entitled Is New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez the Next Sarah Palin?A lot of her personality is stuff we Nuevo Mexicanos already know but it's time the rest of the country learn about her since she's the new darling of the right.
More below the orange chile pepper.
The article, by Andy Kroll, is revealing to those who don't know her style. She was wisked into the governor's seat when the Dem candidate, Dianne Denish, who had been leading in a tight race, blew a debate with a long pause and meandering answer to a simple question. New Mexico is a purple state that trends toward the blue end of the spectrum but Slick Susana breezed pass Denish in the voting booth.
What the article points out (and that a lot of us already figured out) was the Susana and her staff are petty,
Martinez immediately began purging state government of any trace of Bill Richardson. She sold the state plane (Richardson's "personal air taxi," she called it), fired his chefs and reassigned his security officers, and was even rumored to have ordered his name removed from the lead car of the Albuquerque-to-Santa Fe commuter train he'd helped create.
bigoted,
...in yet another debate prep meeting, (Matt) Kennicott (her deputy campaign manager) mocked the language skills of Ben Luján, a former state House speaker and a political icon to New Mexico Latinos: "Somebody told me he's absolutely eloquent in Spanish, but his English? He sounds like a retard."
vindictive,
As the state GOP prepared to elect a new chairman in December 2012, Martinez informed Republican activists that if they didn't support her preferred candidate, John Rockwell, she wouldn't raise money for the party. He lost, and Martinez sent a letter that, according to two party operatives who have read it, threatened to sue the New Mexico GOP if it used her name or image to solicit money.
and petty.
As Martinez and her campaign staff rewatched a recent televised debate, Martinez referred to Denish, her opponent, as "that little bitch." After Denish noted that the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce had given her an award, (Jay) McCleskey (her chief consultant, also called her "Shadow Governor") snapped, "That's why we're not meeting with those fuckers."
Everyone, not only New Mexicans, should digest this as she is being carefully groomed for higher office buy the GOP who view her and her Hispanic name as the key to gaining the Hispanic vote, just as they viewed Sarah Palin as the key to getting the women's vote.
We should be so blessed.
Update: Susana is not pleased.
