Dusty inspects hopeful's quilt. It is almost done!
Our friend, newpioneer, is newly widowed. The love of his life, Juan, died of cancer last week. Juan's journey with cancer was a long one -- he fought very, very hard. And newpioneer (Bobby) was with him every step of the way.
Newpioneer wrote very touchingly of Juan's passing here -- please do read it if you missed it. It is a very touching tribute to a beautiful man and there are pictures of Juan's community quilt in it. Bobby has been spending a lot of time wrapped in Juan's quilt -- but I am thankful that he is now accepting one of his own (I begged him to!). Juan's quilt was made for a different situation -- it was made to support through a terrible illness. Bobby should have a quilt of his own to help support him as he grieves.
hopeful's quilt, basted for quilting
What is a community quilt? It is a quilt containing messages of love and support from you, transcribed by me in archival ink on muslin. My sister and I then construct a colorful quilt using the messages as part of the pattern. The result is a powerful thing -- a blanket that will resonate with love forever. Bobby can use his during the day when he feels like crying and during the night when he is dreaming of Juan. We won't let him feel alone in his grief. We'll wrap him in love.

It takes time and material to make a community quilt -- and it is our living. If you would like to donate toward the cost of Bobby's quilt, here is a PayPal link -- or message me for an address should you prefer a check. $15/message is suggested -- although some give more to cover for messages by those who cannot afford to donate. All messages are welcome!

Quilt status report: Hopeful's quilt will be done in a couple days. I am about to begin writing 2thanks' messages out -- his fabric should arrive in a few days. Triciawyse's messages have been collected and fabric is on order for her. Meteor Blades' quilt patches are made and awaiting the transcription of messages -- something I'll need to do very carefully because if I make a mistake, I'll need to remake the block...
