I have been wanting to say something about this for quite sometime now because I am getting sick and tired of this incessant double-standard by mainstream media. The woman above is obviously an Asian-heritage American. She started sharing her own journey from a mother of 3 kids, juggling a heavy schedule of being a small business owner and -- the horror! -- trying to get back in shape. She, obviously succeeded (look at her!), but when she decided to share it publicly on Facebook and started a blog encouraging other mothers, she got a whole bucket of criticism for "pushing unrealistic expectation." Are YOU serious? Hasn't anybody notice that there are a thousand other women hawking some form of "Extreme Fitness" persona and raking in millions of dollars in the process? So why is it bad for her to do that, but great for the others?
Here's Jillian Michaels' own aptly titled interview on "Motivation and Excuses" with Men's Fitness (http://www.mensfitness.com/...). So she gets to say that because she a "Fitness Guru?"
She even gets a full on empathizing interview with the Huffington Post about her struggles as an overweight person in her teens (
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...). Whew!
Here is the problem; there is absolutely NO PROBLEM at all with what she is doing! Jillian is motivating thousands of people (men and women) into dropping the "EXCUSES" and getting fit. She is making thousands of money out of it, and it is inspiring thousands of others, including me, to follow her lifestyle. But why is that bad for Maria Kang to do the same?
Joy Bauer even has a full on list of "Exercise Excuses" list (http://www.joybauer.com/...). I googled for any negative remarks about her list, and could not find anything.
Tracy Anderson, another famous trainer to celebrities like Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, literally puts down women saying "Pregnancy Is No Excuse to Let Yourself Go" (http://abcnews.go.com/...), and although she did receive some disapproving comments about her statement, they are nowhere as vicious and scathing as what Maria King got. Again, why is that?
Let's jus open the trash can and smell the stink. Because it stinks!
The double-standard and hypocrisy of mainstream media stinks!
