The Supreme Court just announced their decision in Riley v. California, deciding that "The police generally may not, without a warrant, search digital information on a cell phone seized from an individual who has been arrested." This goes much farther than I and many observers expected from this court and could signal a shift towards greater privacy protections in future cases.
The court did leave in an exception for exigent circumstances, such as a bomb or child abduction, to be decided on a case by case basis. I'm still reading the details of the opinion, but this looks like a big win to me.
