Standard disclaimer: Leave your loathing of meta, World of Warcraft, or community diaries outside. If you think we should be playing your MMO instead, start a guild and write a recruitment diary. Don't leave a comment here and then get all hurtful when it isn't received with flowers and candy. This goes double for people coming in to attack guildies over other diaries or comments - STAY OUT! Link to your recruitment diary is OK though. |
Standard advertisement: Wreck List is the Daily Kos World of Warcraft guild. We are Horde-side on the Garrosh server. We're getting close to the membership cap, so we'll have to put you on a waiting list if you want to join. To get on the list, read this diary and visit the Guild web site. Yes, you have to be Horde. No, you don't have to be hardcore - casuals, PvPers, and people that just want to hang out on guild chat are all welcome. |
More below the fold:
Well, this is the kind of crap y'all get when I don't get any raid reports.
Back at the tail end of June we found a dog under the car.
Apparently, the Antelope Valley is a big place for both abandoning pets and dog fighting, so this kind of thing is not uncommon, but we live right downtown (close to historic Route 6 in fact) and at first we thought he was a neighbor's dog that had gotten out. Although he's a little bitty Chihuahua, that turns out to be the most popular breed abandoned here and a popular dog for dog fighters use as bait animals.
Temperatures are well over a hundred degrees here, so we figured we'd better get him inside and start looking for his people. We've canvassed the neighborhood, checked with a vet to see if he was chipped (he isn't, meaning he probably isn't licensed either), we've put up flyers all over and checked with pet food stores and grooming places to see if he's a customer. Pretty much, it's been agreed in our talks with the animal control people and the veterinarian, everything we could do to find his people with no results.
Well, tomorrow will be two weeks since we found him, making him legally ours. He's pretty much too small for me to interact with unless I'm sitting down - I'll bend over as much as I can to pet him, and he'll get up on his hind legs and wave his front paws in "pet me" motions, and there will be a good foot of distance between us. Mrs. is allergic to him, but Teen Loner likes him.
However, the previous owners must have fed him purely on leftovers or from their plates, because he will just go nuts while we're eating, and when we gave him straight dog food and he ate it he barfed all over the place.
Right now we're thinking this is a dry run for owning a dog and looking for a no-kill shelter. The rental management company has said they're OK with us keeping him though.
I'll let you know what happens, especially if I have nothing else to talk about for the weekly next week. For the Horde!
