Received this e-mail today from Shenna Bellows' (D. ME) U.S. Senate campaign:
Yesterday, I publicly expressed my support for a new bill in Congress designed to reform our criminal justice system. The REDEEM Act - a bipartisan bill introduced by Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Rand Paul (R-KY) - would take a number of measures to provide new paths for adults with nonviolent offenses who have served their terms and to prevent children from being directed into the adult criminal justice system.

The federal government locks up Americans in record numbers every year and rarely gives them chances to succeed when their ever-longer sentences end. It's a cruel waste of lives, money and potential, and it has to stop.
Add your name here to support a criminal justice system that doesn't just incarcerate, but rehabilitates its citizenry.

This bill automatically expunges or seals the criminal records of juveniles who committed nonviolent crimes and allows adults who have served their time an opportunity to restart their lives. The war on drugs has failed, and I'm proud to stand with Republicans and Democrats alike in backing drug law reform and criminal justice measures which will strengthen our community.
Thanks for standing with us.
Take care,
Shenna
