Part of our display at Netroots Nation
Thursday, we were granted a space at Netroots Nation to display items we would deliver the next day to the Detroit VA Hospital. It was a generous space:
THANK YOU, Linda Lee, for inviting us to use this space!
We had 42 quilts, 69 teddy bears, almost a hundred hats and scarves, 67 hand made cards, and an assortment of games for our donation.
THANK YOU to everyone who made a quilt, a scarf, a hat.
THANK YOU to joanbrooker for the teddy bears and for the plane ticket
THANK YOU to state of confusion for making the greeting cards
THANK YOU to everyone who contributed a box of books, DVDs or games
THANK YOU to winifred3 and NormAl1972 for their kindly handling the receipt and delivery of the items
THANK YOU to Arliss Bunny for sharing her room with me
THANK YOU to 2thanks, NormAl1792, and linkage for setting up the display with me and for helping to man the table
THANK YOU to MsSpentyouth for help with the press release
THANK YOU to linkage for photographing the display and delivery
THANK YOU to everyone who signed a card...
Special thanks also to winifred3, broths, cfk, JaxDem, and Pam from Calif for helping to organize the gifts. Thanks also to slowbutsure who came along on the delivery and made a money gift to the hospital.
More below the orange squiggle!
The delivery, Volunteer Coordinator's office, Detroit VA Hospital
William Browning, the Volunteer Coordinator at the hospital, was wowed by the gift. He told us that these are things they use every day at the hospital. He was especially impressed with the quilts which he clearly saw were "real" quilts, and not skimpy ones, at that. The hats and scarves were also a hit -- and he said the hats are very useful in hospice as well as with the general population of the hospital.
Anyone who wishes to send a quilt, hats or scarves, books, or a money donation after the fact (you are not too late!), can do so to this address:
Attn. Mr. William R. Browning, Volunteer Coordinator
John D. Dingell VAMC
4646 John R Street
Detroit, MI 48201
Please know that your gifts are tax deductible. For those of you who sent quilts, hats, scarves, etc. and would like a receipt for tax purposes, please kos mail me. I'll be organizing a list for Mr. Browning.

I would like to see a collection for phone cards as an epilogue to our gift -- and I think Vetwife will be handling that. Look for news on that, soon!
Linkage will be making a video about this year's project. I will post it when it is done!
Next year, the project will focus on the VA Hospital in Portland, OR. Stay tuned! We will start organizing soon. Ideas for further gifts are welcome.
Namaste.
