From 10 AM to 5 PM Monday, Israel will unilaterally cease fire throughout Gaza Strip except for East Rafah. Same conditions as previous cease-fires:
Maj. General Mordechai said that the IDF would respond to fire if the cease-fire is violated, and additionally called for the residents of several neighborhoods east of Khan Younis to return to their homes.
Israel also
commenced redeployment of ground forces to the interior of the Gaza-Israel barrier to continue "offensive operations."
Operation Protective Edge is in its fourth week. The toll on Gazan residents has been deleteriously high, with estimates ranging between 1,199 and 1,712 as of this writing; the civilian portion may be as high as 90 percent. The number of wounded may exceed 10,000. Israel reports 64 soldiers, 2 Israeli civilians and one foreign national dead; with 400 soldiers and 23 civilians wounded.
Corporal Frisk attempted to piece together a rough order of battle for the ground forces committed to the fight. As of July 27:
All in all, there now seems to be at least three infantry brigades (Golani, Nahal, Givati), two armored brigades (7th and 401st), as well as a single paratrooper brigade operating inside the Gaza Strip. It seems that both armored brigades are operating in the central area of the strip, where the terrain is more open, with the 401st being the northernmost of the two.
This is one more brigade than was used in Cast Lead.
