Alabama is a state with a white-hooded history regarding the rights of some Americans. To put it more precisely, Alabama for much of its history sanctioned slavery, segregation, and peonage, aka, slavery by another name. I recall the Governor of Alabama in the 60s exclaiming "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever," see George Wallace's 1963 Inaugural Address. That same Governor ran for president on a third party in 1968, essentially advocating for American fascism.
Well Alabama has changed in some ways, improved since those days, but there still are peckerwoods who put on their Klan hoods and raise the flag of white supremacy. Take for example Republican Representative Mo Brooks:
"This is a part of the war on whites that’s being launched by the Democratic Party. And the way in which they’re launching this war is by claiming that whites hate everybody else," Brooks told conservative radio host Laura Ingraham. "It's part of the strategy that Barack Obama implemented in 2008, continued in 2012, where he divides us all on race, on sex, greed, envy, class warfare, all those kinds of things. "
TPM: House Republican: Democrats Have Launched 'War On Whites'
Working to form a more perfect union is fulfilling America's promise. Rejecting evil doctrines like white supremacy will set you free. There ain't no war on whites, but there is a struggle against ignorant asshat bigots.
I nominate Mo Brooks for asshat Klansman of the month.
Update I: And I did not even bring up Selma and the Birmingham bombing that killed babies. Mo Brooks talking about a "war on whites" is like a German post WWII talking about a war on Aryan culture. The stench of fascism is just the same.
