Mitch Daniels - "I love it when a plan comes together." So here's how it works. First, as governor, cut university funding, then cut it some more. Demand that Indiana's excellent universities stop trying to educate students so much and focus on creating trained employees - you know, the kind of thing employers and unions used to do without taxpayer money. Once you've stripped that tree as bare as possible, move on to a new gig - President of Purdue University.
Purdue to offer three year degrees
Once you're President of the University, which has one of the top 10 engineering schools in the country, start cutting the branches. Four years for a college education? Who needs that? Do it in three, kids, and you'll save money. Why do you need to save all that money? Because when I was governor I cut huge chunks out of the support we give what are still laughingly referred to as "State universities," so now your tuition is unaffordable.
Now we expect you to get a university education in three years. Of course, if it just takes three years, all that government funding will be superfluous, so let's cut some more. Also, it will be time to start looking at why it takes three whole years to get a university
education. After all, employers don't care if you can speak - they want you to listen. They don't care if you speak another language, as long as you can say "yes, sir," loudly and clearly in English. Music? The only music you need to hear is the steady drumming of the galley drum. And aren't universities there to serve our corporations? You know, the ones that come to Indiana because the State promises to defer all taxes, including the ones that support the universities?
It's not really a circle. It's a spiral. Downward.
