The title of the Metallica song says it best: Nothing Else Matters. The leaked draft of the latest IPCC climate assessment doesn't pull punches. We are rapidly heading toward severe irreversible climate impacts if we haven't reached them already.
Other issues seem trivial when compared to the devastation and suffering caused by an unlivable planet. These are not ordinary times and we must look to extraordinary means to solve the greatest problem our species has ever faced. If there ever was a moment in our planet's history when we have needed a hero it is now.
The status quo political scene will not do for 2016. We have lost too much time
Often the times make the hero. The Civil War and slavery made Lincoln into our emancipation hero. The Great Depression and World War II made Franklin Roosevelt. We have someone who has the experience and international gravitas to become an instant global climate leader.
I don't want to belittle other issues. We must continue to work on inequality, immigration, wage fairness , human rights issues etc. but they all dwarf global warming which as it progresses will impact the poor and most vulnerable first and most severe.
I have waited my entire life to elect a women as president, but right now I am most concerned about the survival of our species. I see HRC as too cautious and accommodating. The Goldwater girl has morphed into the Chevron girl.
If HRC is the nominee I will definitely vote for her but I think we need a primary that will elevate the climate change issue. Could HRC win a primary that includes Al Gore? I don't know. She stumbled in her last primary. I would love to see them fight out the climate issue.
I can't see Gore entering the race if HRC runs unless there is shown to be national interest in him becoming a candidate.
Okay, I'm leaving my laptop now. I don't want to get hurt.
