There are 5 weeks until the 2014 election. It will be an election for the US House and Senate, Governors, State Legislatures, City Councils, Mayors and many other offices. There are excellent candidates running in races all over the country. There are terrible candidates running in races all over the country. You know who these candidates are. But you know what? With a few exceptions, we are not hearing about these races at DKos. We need to know who is running and why they deserve to be supported with money, time and GOTV efforts and, if not, why not.
Every Monday evening Election Diary Rescue publishes a link to diaries that have appeared in the previous week about specific national, state and local races. And about issues that are being raised in those races. We need to hear about more of them. And not just the high profile ones that will determine who controls the US Senate.
I am one of a band of Election Diary rescuers. I learn so much about candidates and issues when I do my shift once a week. I've learned about Ken from Mountain View CA from his accounts of what it's like to run for office in a local election. I've learned about Zephyr Teachout and Tim Wu and their courageous race against Andrew Cuomo for NY Governor. I've learned about organizations like Climate Hawks Vote and who they are supporting. I've learned a lot about what's the matter with Kansas. But there are many more election diaries waiting to be written, waiting to be rescued and waiting to be read. So let us know what race you think is important and why. We want GOTV diaries from those of you walking precincts, making phone calls, giving house parties or donating money. We want to learn about the issues you think are the ones that will determine the outcome of the races you care about.
Enough with the focus on Hillary, Bernie and Elizabeth. They will not be on the ballot anywhere in 5 weeks, but a lot of other people will be.
