I've been following the Chris Christie Bridge Controversy and have been waiting for the proverbial "Nail In The Coffin". I was rather excited to see the following Recent Diary "Breaking: Christie about to be directly implicated - Middle Jersey Dispatch". Nothing in the title indicates it is Snark and the title is written with the clear intention of getting you to believe there is some juicy new information being released from a reputable news source.
I have read a few "Snark Diaries" that are well written and I get the beauty in being able to make fun of Republicans or "Both Sides Do It" journalism through parody. I personally don't like most of the Snark because the majority of the ones I have read are not written well enough to convey a meaningful point beyond "Gotcha Ya!" Other people like them so there is no point in arguing about their usefulness, they are obviously meaningful to a lot of people.
However, since there is at least an unwritten rule, if not a formal one, to include the "Snark" tag I would like to ask for a simple change. Any diary with a "Snark" tag gets listed with it's title in a different color. There is no reason we should have our time wasted by clicking through and having to read half of a completely made up diary before we get it is a joke; or having to scroll down to look for the "Snark" tag because it was written well enough that we are not sure it's a hoax without the tag. I think that would also force people to write better "Snark" and not simply be able to get lots of recommendations based solely on their ability to write a good BuzzFeed style headline.
If enough people like it as it is with all diaries listed in the same color, regardless of if they are true or not, maybe we could add a user account setting to color code "Snark Diaries" for those that don't like them.
Thanks for listening.
