Welcome to Sunday All Day Brunch. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you. I thought today we could take a look at our moon. Our moon is the fifth largest moon in our solar system and bigger than Pluto. Current theory is that a large object smashed into the newly forming Earth and took a chunk off of it which became our moon. The object that hit us may have been about the size of Mars.
The moon has an effect on our tides with its gravitational pull. Like the four inner planets the moon is rocky and shows the impact of meteors that bombarded it in the past. Because it takes 27.3 days both to rotate on its axis and to orbit Earth, the moon always shows us the same face.
The moon holds a fascination for mankind and is the only foreign body that man has stepped foot on. It is a favorite of poets, writers, and artists. I frequently put the moon in my art. Sometimes I put our moon in other planets' skies because our moon is so beautiful.
