Why progressives should swallow their pride and elect Hillary.
Firstly let me just say that I, like most Americans, am supportive of law enforcement and have a deep respect for the job they do. This video of a citizen asserting his rights crystallized three notions in my mind:
1) I began to empathize with the Teaparty Jihadists even though they are arguing the wrong legal position.
2) It became clear that most people are woefully ignorant of the actual law in practice.
3) The only power a citizen has is in understanding the law enough to assert their rights in a way that demands the 'enforcers' to respect the constitution.
I'll describe in detail why this is important for democrats and Hillary Clinton below the fold...
Watch The Video On You Tube...
First, if you can imagine being a member of the tea party and listening to Rush Limbaugh all day, and staying tucked into bed crying after general elections... (okay you can stop), then it would feel terrible to actually believe that the federal government operates like local law enforcement; stopping you, taking your gun, and continually asking you to voluntarily give up your constitutionally protected rights, that are settled law. If that universe did actually exist, then it would be a painful world to live in.
Second, how many people actually understand the law enough to cite specific supreme court cases in an effort simply to have their rights respected by the enforcers? Shouldn't it be a requirement that the people enforcing the law actually respect it on their own without every citizen being forced to go through a semester of law school before they can assert their rights? Most people are so ignorant of the law that they voluntarily give up their rights or in the case of the Teaparty they believe the law says something that it does not say.
And the third notion is the most important; you must understand the law enough to assert it in a way that demands the enforcers respect it. This is something that the Teaparty does all the time. They demand their rights be respected and then try to get the enforcers to respect their assertions sometimes with success and at other times with abysmal failure. Too often progressives and liberals do neither.
Enter the Democrats, the Supreme Court, and Hillary Clinton.
This video brings to life why it is important for democrats to occasionally accept a candidate we don't love instead of unintentionally electing a candidate we love to hate. The Supreme court ultimately decides how can we assert our rights in the daily interactions that we have with our government. The profound consequences of voting for Ralph Nader in 2000 are still being felt to this day most recently with supreme court decisions on net neutrality, citizens united, and the soon to be reversal of the decades old practice of recess appointments. Supreme court appointments are by far the most important reason to elect Hillary Clinton. I know, I know... I would love Elizabeth Warren too, but the consequences of allowing the risk of a Republican choosing the next two Supreme court justices would make the entire Bush Presidency look like a warm summer day in California.
It's time for Kossacks to begin asserting our rights and asking unapologetically, "Can I have my democracy back." With a conservative supreme court we will be denied.
Overturn Citizens United, Elect Hillary Clinton.
