Oh how I love
hilarious ledes like this:
Republicans will unveil a rebranding effort Thursday aimed at changing its image as a political party focused solely on obstructing President Barack Obama's agenda to instead a champion of ideas and action.
It is being spearheaded by Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, who will deliver a speech at a local university outlining the GOP's legislative efforts across 11 topic areas ranging from jobs and national security to values and immigration.
By my count, this is Republican rebranding attempt number 5,261,842. I could be off by a couple of million, but these things never seem to convince anybody, nor do they end well.
And, as you might expect, this one is off to a rip-roaring start, because one of the so-called "GOP principles" to prove they aren't "a political party focused solely on obstructing President Barack Obama's agenda" is this:
We need to start over with real healthcare reform that puts patients and their doctors in charge, not unelected bureaucrats in Washington.
So yes, Republicans are rebooting their rebranding to become something completely different—a party that is no longer focused on obstructing President Obama's agenda, but is instead focused on repealing Obamacare. (I'll leave to you to divine the distinction between the GOP's "new" call for Obamacare repeal and their
more than 50 votes in the House to do the same.)
To be fair to Reince, this isn't nearly as bad as the GOP's lame new "Wedding Dress" outreach to The Youths of America, an ad campaign so terrible that it makes obsessing over Obamacare repeal seem like a brilliant and novel strategy. Still, somebody needs to let these guys know what "rebranding" and "reboot" actually mean, because they clearly haven't got a clue.
