A school shooting took place a few miles from my home on tuesday. That evening another man was shot and killed. The next day an 18 year old was arrested after robbing a store with a gun, and another teen "found" a gun on the ground and took it to TWO schools. That afternoon a felon on parole was having a warrant served on her for violating the rules of parole and she held an 18 month old hostage in a stand off for several hours before the police shot her.
In all the social media comment sections i've been asking "Where did they get the gun?"
It has generated some interesting responses and some people are also beginning to ask that question also.
Where did the gun come from? It is not blaming the gun, but the people behind it.
Where did the gun come from? Gun owners say they want to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, so who ever provided the gun should face charges of illegal gun sale or in the worst case accomplice.
Where did the gun come from? Some knee jerk response is "it was stolen". Ok, then shouldn't the owner want it back? How did it get stolen? was it like the case in Indiana where the gun dealer was shot and killed in his store then had his guns stolen or was it like the shooting here last month where the attacker stole the gun from under a pillow and returned to shoot the owner?
Where did the gun come from? Shouldn't everyone want to shut down that source that is putting guns in the hands of criminals and underage kids?
it is not asking for more laws, or banning guns. It is asking who helped the person get the gun, and if there is going to be any effort at stopping them.
We can't stop people from killing each other, but we can make it harder for criminals to get guns, that is what gun owner responsibility is about.
