You know how support groups work, right? The idea is that by sharing our stories and struggles, we can help each other keep on keepin' on. Well, that's what I'd like us to do for the next four Wednesdays (only four!) between now and Election Day: Keep each other posted about what we plan to do, and then let each other know how well we met our self-imposed obligations.
I don't know how it is in your area, but things are hopping in Washtenaw County. Big meeting this weekend for a "GOTV Strategy Event," featuring Mark Schauer along with other special activists. The idea is to attend to get info and then to head out canvassing. That same afternoon, Saturday, there's a mailing party in support of a slate of Ann Arbor School Board candidates backed by the Huron Valley Central Labor Coalition--seeking to place pro-labor candidates on the board this election season.
I think I can do both this weekend, and maybe another canvassing gig this coming week (well, early next week to be technical). But I'm especially tempted to head over to one of the local campuses on Friday with a clipboard to register voters. It should be possible, and urgent, since voter reg closes on Monday here in Michigan. (You know, I think we need to campaign for more expansive voting procedures in this state. Anyone with me on that? Early voting? Easier absentee?)
We have one more week to think about this in an Open Thread, but I was serious about having a group viewing of the Schauer-Snyder town hall debate on Sunday the 12th. Anyone else up for that?
OK, the floor is now yours. Please do step up to commit to an activity: your example will inspire others. Thanks!
