Recently, I got an email from musician and podcaster Jacob Haller who asked if he could interview me about a song I wrote a zillion years ago (well, really 20 years ago). It spoofed political corruption in Congress with actual C-Span quotes rhythmically placed throughout the song. (I actually personally gave Rep. Charles Rangel a CD way back then while I was protesting the selling off of jazz station WDCU - now C-span radio)
I hadn't heard my song in a while, so for the interview, I fished out my ancient CD "With a Little Help From My Friends" and was surprised that not only is the song still relevant - the corruption is a thousand times worse (as we all well know). Jacob's wonderful and funny podcast "Tell Me About Your Song" inspired me to re-release the CD with new songs. If you wanna get ramped up for the congressional elections, check out the tune on my Soundcloud account ...composed by the late, great funky guitarist Jef Lee Johnson and lyrics by yours truly. It's pretty darn funny, and damning.
