Is not the color of the Democratic slate of candidates for the 30th Legislative District of Washington State.
White? That would be as in White, Anglo-Saxon Protestant. And Male.
Immediately, I begin my argument with myself. Why is it the "white race"? Why do I have to be identified as a member of the "white race" when often my color is quite ruddy, often spotty and blotched? Why aren't Koreans and Japanese and other pale-skinned Asians considered white?
The Democratic slate for the 30th consists of Shari Song for WA State Senate, female and Korean-American and Protestant. Roger Freeman for WA State House, male, African-American and Protestant. Greg Baruso for WA State House, male, Filipino-American and Catholic and/or Protestant (code for religion unknown).
But, "unwhite" would be absolutely normal and acceptable for inclusion within the 9th Congressional District of Washington State, represented by Adam Smith, WASP. White Anglo-Saxon, Protestant. And Male. And a Democrat. And, as a congressman for the Ninth, he now represents a district in which "whites" are now a minority because of the redistricting resulting from the 2010 census which yielded an additional congressional seat for Washington State.
Smith's district now includes a sizable chunk of Seattle, which is pretty much a Pacific-rim city. The Ninth also includes Federal Way, a motley mêlée of citizens who speak between 80 and 90 different languages representing all the continents of the world, excepting Antarctica (if that is a continent).
The Republican slate is universally "white", as in of mostly European ancestry, one female, two Protestants, one Roman Catholic.
Let us all hope and pray that the largely "unwhite" citizens of the 30th are not like the largely "unwhite" citizens of Ferguson, Missouri where, because of indifference to the required due diligence of American citizenry they failed to register to vote and to vote, and they got a whole bunch of crap as a result.
REGISTER TO VOTE! AND VOTE! GOD DAMN IT! VOTE!
